Fishing

Large Rainbow Trout are the big catch at Lake Alpine.  That's because the lake is stocked every year with an abundance of fish.  We are scheduled to get 2000 pounds of 1lb. or bigger from Alpine County.  Alpine County Chamber of Commerce will contribute 1000 pounds, Lake Alpine Lodge and Bear Valley Business Association, through contributions from the flop pot, individuals, our fish derby and ourselves, hopes to contribute 1000 pounds, totaling 4000 pounds of one pound or better fish.  Sometimes the California Department of Fish and Game stocks the lake with an additional 7000 pounds of trout.  Also caught in Stanislaus National Forest are Golden and Brook Trout; also stocked are Kamloops Rainbow, Kokanee, and Brown Trout.  You must be licensed.  One day and annual resident fishing licenses are available at the General Store, along with a publication on fishing regulations.

Activities

Whether you're fishing or just watching, our Annual Fishing Derby & Barbecue is always fun!  The Fishing Derby is a one day fishing contest with prizes for the biggest fish caught.  We have categories for children and adults.  Each category has at least 10 prizes and the winners get their picture taken with their fish and their prize.  The pictures are put up on our bulletin board.  The cost is $5 for adults and $2 for children (the money goes for prizes and to buy big fish to stock in the lake).

Supplies

All the fishing supplies you need are in our General Store.  We have bait, rods, reels, lures, worms, powerbait, etc.,

Hunting

Alpine County is one of the best deer hunting areas of the state, partly because Alpine County is the least populated county in California.  Hunting starts in the fall and includes Deer, Quail, Grouse and Pheasant.  Archery Deer Hunting starts in August and Rifle starts in September.  You'll have to get your hunting license before coming to Lake Alpine Lodge because the General Store does not sell them.
